Description
This advanced program is worth 3.0 hours of continuing education. Based on the presenter’s 2019 book (NASW Press), this workshop describes culturally diverse faith-based and secular forms of meditation for personal benefit and as a strategy for clients to reduce anxiety/mood/other symptoms and enhance concentration, ability to detach from traumatic/stressful cognitions and emotions, and enhance positive aspects of living. Several case applications of both sit-down meditation and “spot” or tactical application, and didactic/experiential introduction to 13-step process to introduce clients and self to at least four forms of meditation: mantra, breath count, mindful breath awareness and hybrid. Benefits, cautions and relevance of meditation to prayer are described.
