Research shows that not all female service members get the support they need. Dr. Roberts conducted in-depth interviews with 10 women who were wounded during overseas assignments and only three of them received effective chaplain support. A follow-up study with 15 male chaplains from Christian and non-Christian denominations showed that many of them lacked counseling training and knowledge about problems women in the military face.
Most denominations and seminaries provide little in the way of training specifically oriented to the needs of female service members. Women make up about 15% of the U.S. armed forces, but they suffer more than men from gender harassment, sexual assault, PTSD, and other traumas than men. Women experience the military differently than men and this calls for a special ministerial approach.
Through extensive research and practice, Moral Injury Support Network for Servicewomen, Inc. (MISNS, pronounced “missions”) has developed theories, models, and practices for providing pastoral care to women service members. We will provide seminars and workshops to help chaplains and organizations grow in their ability to provide care to the brave men and women who guard our country. MISNS can also help schools and professors develop curriculum and case studies. Our prices are competitive with industry prices and are often offered at a discount.

Seminars are three-hour events in a classroom, auditorium, or conference setting. The instructor will offer instructional material and facilitate feedback and discussion from the audience. Seminars are highly interactive and will challenge participants to think deeply about their own perspectives and attitudes. Pricing includes travel within the continental United States (CONUS). Travel and lodging costs will be added for events outside of CONUS.
Workshops take one to two days and involve theoretical discussions, hands-on training, practical exercises, and group activities. Price: $5,000 for a one-day, 6-8 hour workshop, $9,000 for two-day workshop.
Dr. Roberts has written several case studies for SAGE Publications (see Published Materials on the Home page). MISNS will conduct or write case studies on specific topics for use in classrooms or continuing education programs. Price: $3,000/case with unlimited use for the purchasing organization. (Case studies that require extensive research may cost more.)
